Words Matter

This morning I was reading a blog post from a British writer, she was writing about what her and her husband were giving this season. Instead of the word, I am so familiar with here in the states, \”homeless\”, she used the word \”vulnerable\”.  We are helping by donating to the \”vulnerable\” this year.
Vulnerable, in the dictionary, a partial meaning is those \”in need of special care\”.
I like the word \”vulnerable\”. For me, it connotes a temporary situation, a situation that gives the person or animal dignity.  It is a word that brings us together instead of separating us into a condition.
We are all vulnerable to some degree and our levels of vulnerability decrease and increase depending on what challenges we face.
How would we treat each other and look at each other differently if we considered that we are all vulnerable, people, animals, nature, our world here without judgement at the type of vulnerability we are experiencing.
Today, I am going to look at people and animals, and nature with new eyes, with a new understanding that all of us are vulnerable in our own unique ways.
